Gemotions

Eliza walked through the house, the afternoon sun painting long shadows on the polished floors. She had spent the morning baking, the aroma of cinnamon and sugar still lingering in the air. The kitchen was sparkling. The house was tidy. There was nothing more that needed to be done.

She decided to finally organize the boxes in the basement. She worked her way through piles of old photographs, childhood drawings, and forgotten trinkets. She located a faded cardboard box labeled “Dad’s Old Files.” Inside, amongst tax documents and utility bills, she found a single, typed letter.

It was a resignation letter. She recognized her father's firm, decisive signature. A feeling of profound serenity settled over her. She sat on the floor, the letter in her hands, and savored the moment.
